New form.

Each Spring 'Kaleidoscope' lights up with bright yellow and green variegation, turning into Summer the foliage darkens to a deep green with a golden-creamy yellow outer edge. In autumn 'Kaleidoscope' explodes with colour! Green, yellow, orange, and red all appear vibrantly spectacular. Highlighted by the brilliant red stems and the abundant white flowers. As the season changes to Winter and back into Spring, 'Kaleidoscope' again goes through a metamorphosis, from dark red back to green and yellows. Best in the landscape under full sun to partial shade. These conditions promote the best colour and fullness.

ID: ace.shis Acer palmatum Shishigashira
acer shishigashira

A slow growing tree, this variety has a much denser appearance than many of the other Japanese maples. It has a rather congested elegance with an upright habit and short branches, packed with dark green foliage. It makes a handsome and unusual specimen. The leaves turn a dark gold autumnal colour; the colour often coming several weeks later than that of other Acer palmatum varieties. It is useful therefore, to extend the season of autumn colour if you wish to grow several of these maples together. This is also a good variety for pot culture or for planting in a small garden.
